Composers & Music / Pedro Tintorer 1814-1891

There's an interesting 2004 album of chamber works by this obscure Spanish composer on Spotify:

Nothing profound here but some light, pleasant listening.   Includes a Piano Trio and Quartetino for piano quartet.

The first and third symphonies are now available on YouTube for a listen.

Whatever became of the Paul Graener Cello Concerto recording that CPO was to have released LAST year???  Also there was a 2 CD set of Hausseger works also set for 2015........

Free Youtube Downloader also works very well.  But if you download it, be sure to watch the install closely and DECLINE the offers for other junk software.

Reminds me of an old friend of mine who never could wait to hear what was going to come out of his own mouth next......

Perhaps he's one of those folks who just can't wait to hear what's going to come out of his mouth next.

I had a friend like that........we probably all do, come to think of it.

It disappointed me.   It's a very mixed bag of styles and at times is not, IMHO, terribly "romantic".  Perhaps I expected too much.

Strange, too, that Naxos, for example, seem to provide copies of new recordings to YouTube.  Knowing that downloads are a breeze, are they just depending on folks to be honest, listen and then buy the CD or download?   I find that odd.

Thanks, friends.   Grove has this about the opus 95:  "with hp, pf2".

Silvertrust also sez that his publisher wanted a violin part for the opus 28 Clarinet Trio, which Ries did and it was also published.

Franz Ries is elusive.  Wikipedia does list some compositions but none are piano trios.  This may just remain a mystery.

Composers & Music / Ries Piano Trios

I'm trying to clean up my recorded database and discovered I have two piano trios on R2R tapes (origin, unfortunately, unknown) that are labeled Piano Trio #2 in a and Piano Trio #3 in F.  No opus numbers.   There don't seem to be any recordings that I can find.  Grove looks like it sez there are 6 trios.  Unfortunately, Grove doesn't list the key signatures.  So, I'm baffled.   Any ideas?

Indeed it should be.  My keyboard drops letters reguarly and I don't always catch them.......  Perhaps Alan can fix it.

I've just been sampling a bit of this three disc set.  The performances I guess are OK.  But for the life of me, I can't understand why anyone would spend the time and energy to learn all of these complex Sonatas and Etudes and then record them on an 1812 piano that sounds something like a cross between a harpsichord and a barroom piano???  Is it just my old ears or do others find these thin, tinny sounds distracting and annoying?

Thanks, guys.  Will look into it.
