Naxos is easily by FAR the label I own the most discs of. They've been a true god send for both unsung composers.

Also I don't think anyone's mention the other Alfano recording they just released?

Discogs in general is bad at being comprehensive for classical music, so it's extremely hit or miss no matter who the composer is.

I wonder if this means that Chandos's site will merge into Naxos's or will stay like it is?

Quote from: Ilja on Tuesday 05 March 2024, 21:21Not all that odd from a retailer's perspective. Keeping inventory is expensive, so the more customers you can serve with the digital product, the less physical items you need to stock. Of course, one box of Raff CDs won't make a huge difference but across their entire catalogue...

This, however, is Amazon which lists almost anything else. They are as a whole pushing toward digital but this isn't some small label that sells mainly from its website, this is CPO which for sure could be considered a major indie in the classicalsphere.

Ok gave this a listen. As usual for Raff, very good. Was worried about all the dialogue but no, it's recitatives. Whoops. :P

Of course as usual Amazon doesn't seem to want to have pages for CPO CDs any more for some reason, no idea what's up with that.

Quote from: Mark Thomas on Friday 23 February 2024, 12:04I'm gobsmacked that the whole double album, as yet unreleased, has already been posted of YouTube by the choir.

It was just released.

And why are you gobsmacked in 2024? For most people, streaming IS how they listen to things. I'm fan of a game whose second entry came out a year ago. Soundtrack was released on CD and download (in Japan only, as is the normal) shortly after, and almost everyone who continues to whine about  "Why isn't it on Spotify?!" "When's it going to be on Spotify?!".....and now it was just put there the other day, tons of people are all over it.

Looks like this has been digital for a while. Tidal lists last April as the release date.

It's melodic enough -- and I suppose perhaps as a knock against it 'obvious' enough -- that I could actually hum along with it the first time. Honestly I really enjoy it. Melodic bombast is really up my ally.

Quote from: JP on Monday 20 November 2023, 00:11Rather intriguing that this was announced on the Chandos website instead of Naxos upcoming release section as is usually the practice.

Yeah Chandos seems to be jumping the gun in listing upcoming releases. I noticed that with the recent release of Rozsa orchestral music.

Quote from: Alan Howe on Monday 01 January 2024, 09:59I think more investigation is needed. I mean, 869 opus numbers?

Well, Czerny had 861 so it's doable.

I will gladly take another recording of those two warhorses for the rest of it. Heh.

Yeah I noticed that the other day. eClassical and other sites still have the same info though. Of course for while now they redirected you to eClassical if you wanted the booklet and sound samples, so the only thing that's really changed is cutting out the bis.se middle man.

Quote from: Ebubu on Sunday 29 October 2023, 22:34Who says they're interested in SELLING recordings when they're giving them all for free ? Looks like they're more interested in drowning Deezer, Qobuz, Spotify and all the other paying platforms.

I'm going to guess you never really engage with younger people online. A large percentage of self-proclaimed music lovers pretty much never buy music any more -- many never have. It's a causal loop that stemmed from the rise of streaming, but it's less that they are 'not interested in selling' but rather they (supposedly) have the data that shows they make more money from offering it on these platforms (which aren't free in the truest sense, either because of ads or of course because of being locked behind subscriptions).

Out of curiosity why is this topic pinned?

Well eClassical is still operating as usual, including daily comments on the deal of the day by Bahr himself, for whatever that's worth.
