Tamás Vásáry died 5 days ago in Budapest. Probably best-known as both pianist and conductor for his performances of standard repertoire, he still made some recordings that can't be so categorized - and most interesting from our point of view, probably, was a recording he conducted for Hungaroton of 3 works by Erno von Dohnanyi (the Concertstück with Csaba Onczay, the suite in F-sharp minor, and the Symphonic Minutes, all with the Budapest Symphony Orchestra, released back in 1996.)
That's too bad. I well remember him as the pianist in my first and only recording of the Liszt piano concertos, a DG LP I bought about 45 years ago.
