Title: Hans Gál: De Profundis – two upcoming performances and a recording
Post by: Wheesht on Monday 13 April 2026, 13:03
Hans Gál's large-scale cantata De Profundis Op. 50, for four soloists, mixed choir and orchestra, will be performed twice in the autumn, in Leipzig in September, and in Heidelberg in November.
The Hans Gál website announces these concerts under News (https://hansgal.org/news/68) and mentions that a recording is planned on CPO. I for one will be delighted to add this to my copy of the 1987 archival recording by the BBC Singers/BBC Concert Orchestra, conducted by Simon Joly.

That's great news indeed, Weesht: thanks for letting us know. It's high time this marvellous piece got a commercial recording. If interested, there's a very good 1988 performance from Vienna on YouTube (soloists, Arnold-Schoenberg-Chor, Wiener Symphoniker / Peter Gülke):
