A 3rd recording of this work has been announced for release in April, coupled with Brahms' piano quintet (rather than Gernsheim's first quintet), on Naxos performed by the Formosa Quartet and Reiko Uchida. (Hopefully this will bring a larger audience to a fine composer and work.)
Not on Naxos, sadly, but on Delos:

Oh. Well, so much for my justification of the new release. Though I am still glad to see -a- new recording (from a general feeling of "the more, the merrier" even if this one could have been better coupled- if not with the other Gernsheim, since that would put it in direct competition with two other releases, for one thing;
and since I do understand the argument behind releasing a disc pairing something unusual with something better-known...-
but- not quite as well-known as the Brahms, perhaps.
(Though I first heard the wonderful Brahms quintet when I was in college, no earlier...)
Fundamentally, you're right, Eric. Any new recording of the Gernsheim should definitely make us merrier!
