MDG have just released a CD of Klughardt's Piano Quintet and String Quintet, played by the Leipzig String Quartet with Olga Gollej and Julian Steckel. Whilst I haven't heard these performances, I do have radio recordings of both works and they are lovely pieces, well worth investigating. Details and audio samples at jpc (http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/August-Klughardt-Klavierquintett-op-43/hnum/7360063).
100% agreed, Mark! These are indeed beautiful pieces.
When I checked, I found that my radio recording of the Piano Quintet is the one now on the MDG CD, so I can give it a really confident recommendation.
Thanks for the info - sounds like a winner for chamber music devotees.
Funny, the disc is not mentioned anywhere on MD&G's website, as far as I can see.
MDG are very slow in updating their website - new CDs are always at jpc.de before they are on the company's own webpage of new releases!
The G minor piano quintet? (Don't know if he wrote another.) Looking forward to that, thank you.
