Léon Boëllmann's fine Cello Sonata, Op.40 will be on the programme at Conway Hall, London on Sunday 19th May 2019 at 6:30pm, featuring Sergio Patria (cello) and Elena Ballario (piano).

The Boëllmann is a very fine work, indeed! As far as I am aware there is only one extant commercial recording - http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/album.jsp?album_id=44524 Beautifully executed, the disc is even more enjoyable for the fact it contains many other premiere recordings.

cheers,
Daniel

A fine performance of the cello sonata of Boellmann is coupled with one by Benjamin Godard on Hyperion. This was issued 1996. It is still available.

Joachim Raff:

Charles Koechlin:
«Chansons bretonnes» für Cello und Orchester op. 115
Robert Volkmann:
Cellokonzert a-Moll op. 33

It's available on Amazon UK from 3rd party retailers, only one of which is asking a stupidly inflated price. There is one brand new at £9.99.
Hyperion also offer an Archive service on their website. You may order an individually produced copy of any CD which is deleted for £13.99. Search for the disk from their online catalogue and you will see the option listed.

Soon in January 11. - 19. @ Finland, Helsinki (Aleksanterinteatteri venue) - Fredrik Pacius' Opera "Die Loreley". The first staged performance since its premiere in 1887 (one previous concert recording seems to exist but I don't have it). This Opera was based on a libretto intended for Mendelssohn who died just before he was able to start working on it. Fingers crossed it might even be charming.

3 movements by Mendelssohn exist , published as Op.98. Act I finale, Ave Maria, Wurzerchor. So he more than got started, but didn't finish...

The same libretto (by Geibel) was used by Bruch for his superb Die Loreley.

Another concert containing some unsung Romantic music: No longer as unsung as it once was and slightly outside our usual time range (but I believe we've discussed in the past whether or not this work is sufficiently Romantic to fit) -- Myaskovsky's cello concerto in C minor Op.66 is being performed (in Ottobrunn on January 31, in Munich on February 2, same performers I believe, 8 pm local both cases) according to a photograph of the concert notice I saw posted to Instagram just now (Bruckner's 7th and a more modern work fill out the program.)

A more useful link (https://www.muenchen.de/veranstaltungen/event/42151.html) than "according to a photograph of the...". And another (https://abaco-orchester.de/konzerte/) from the orchestra which mentions both (not just the Munich one). (Lionel Cottet, cello, Abaco Orchester, Vitali Alekseenok, conductor.)

No problem with Myaskovsky's wonderful Cello Concerto. Could have been written 40 years earlier.

Got ahold of the score last year. 40 years maybe, but not in the 19th century (well... never say -couldn't- or even wasn't... The 19th century too was a weird time in its outskirts - as, I will be swiftly reminded, were most of the centuries before and since, and I will readily agree...)

Well, due to some 200-odd miles distance, missing Gernsheim's 2nd string quartet @ Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players (NYC) tonight, unfortunately! And February 18th they're playing music by Gossec, Thomas, Fauré and Debussy.  Slightly more traditional concert from them on March 4th with chamber works by Konrgold & Schubert; 3/18 brings JM Kraus, Adolf Busch, and Beethoven and Felix Mendelssohn ; 3/25 has JB Foerster's nonet, a Fiala bassoon quartet, and works by Smetana and Dvorak; 4/8 has Szell (quintet Op.2, 1911), Toscanini (2 songs, 1885), Weingartner (octet, 1925), and Mitropoulos (Kassiani, 1919)  - also a more recent work by the late founder of the Jupiter Symphony.. etc.

First ever Berlin Opera performance of Zemlinsky's "Der Zwerg" coming up on March 24th. (Quite a fair amount of Zemlinsky early and middle and late this year according to both BachTrack and the Universal Edition website. Eg the 2nd symphony in B-flat in Wuppertal on March 17 & 18, the piano trio in D minor Op.3 in the Brahms-Sahl Vienna, the early movements for string quintet on May 16 at the Schoenberg-Center in Vienna, the String Quartet in A op.4 on June 16 @ Maison de la radio: Auditorium, Paris, and two different conductors and orchestras will be performing Die Seejungfrau in mid-April in Chicago and San Diego...)

In Freiburg, Germany, there will soon be a performance of an oratorio of Carl Loewe I had not heard of previously:

C. Loewe: Das Sühnopfer des neuen Bundes

Sonntag, 31. März 2019, 17 Uhr

Freiburg, Kirche St. Martin

Thank you for that link, Mark, I did not look for recordings before posting. I fear there are many more works of composers of Loewe's fame that I have not heard of but are recorded. As always, live performances like this one are probably the rare thing about it as fortunately, many lesser-known works are being recorded even multiple times (think of the ratio live performances vs recordings of ilya muromets, for example...)

Speaking of Glière:
April 12th, 8 pm, Nuremberg Mastersinger Hall: Glière "Sirens" symphonic poem, Barvinsky piano concerto, Rimsky Scheherazade (Kateryna Titova, piano in the Barvinsky, Oksana Lyniv conducting the Staatsphilharmonie Nürnberg...)

Didn't notice this before, but next week (April 15)'s program with the Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players in NYC will feature Anton Rubinstein's piano quintet in G minor. (Searching things Rubinstein, I see a London concert performance of The Demon at the end of this month, but that's probably been mentioned elsewhere.) And in November (11/1) anyone living near Ravello Italy might like to hear his 3rd violin sonata live...

Also, a few more-
Maurice Emmanuel's cello sonata (1887-1890) in a concert @ Regent Hall, London at 1 pm tomorrow (April 19) (with works by Bloch & Beethoven) and the same program at Charlton House a week from Friday.
May 1 @ Cadogan Hall - Enescu's 2nd orchestral suite, a work by Porumbescu (1853-1883, so probably appropriate for this forum timewise), and works by Saint-Saëns and Mozart.
May 4 @ Polish Social and Cultural Association Ltd (Polski Osrodek Spoleczno Kulturalny), Hammersmith, London - various Moniuszko opera excerpts in honor of his birthday. Could be good.

On May 30, the Diogenes Quartet will play Arriaga's 3rd quartet as part of a varied program (https://bachtrack.com/concert-listing/gran-teatro-de-cordoba/del-cuarteto-a-la-orquesta-sinfonica/30-may-2019/20-30) in Cordóba.
Just looking around a bit...

June 24 in Paris there will be a Concert monstre of somewhat unusual works by Berlioz, who died 150 years ago (most of the Berlioz 150 celebrations seem to be performances of the Symphonie fantastique, I notice, but this one contains L'impériale, Le temple universal, the Grande symphonie funèbre et triomphale and the Hymne des Marseillais. François-Xavier Roth conducts. 20:30 local at the Grande salle Pierre Boulez (location-wise.))

It's Pfitzner's 150th birth-anniversary, and Palestrina is being performed in Perth in June (21&22) but aside from that and some lieder and vocal selections, not much this year it seems.

Theater Freiburg 2019/20 Season

The Theater Freiburg has released its new season brochure and again, it contains interesting things for us lovers of unsung music. Of course most of it is not unsung regarding CD recordings, but there are quite some works outside the standard repertoire of the concert hall, at least from my experience.

1) After the Magnard focus in the last seasons, they feature a lot of Korngold this year (they announced a complete recording of Korngold's orchestral works with Naxos):

Moreover, there will be
(of this list, I am not sure whether everything is within the romanticity definition of UC)

Quite a lot to see and hear for us UC lovers!

Best wishes,
ewk

How sad, I had not taken notice of this.
At least, the replacement programme features Schreker's "Der Geburtstag der Infantin" besides Mahler's Wunderhorn-Lieder.

Ok, it's been awhile, but:
adding: Rootham: Suite in Three Movements for flute and piano (https://bachtrack.com/concert-listing/st-brides-church-fleet-street/bach-rootham-gershwin-koechlin/29-october-2019/13-15) op. 64 played this afternoon (Oct.29) at St. Brides Church London EC4Y BAU at- hrm, oh dear. Concert starts at 13:15 so actually that's just in a very short while for those in the area...
Interesting this evening local in London: concerts with Boulanger's Les sirènes (https://bachtrack.com/concert-listing/royal-college-of-music-amaryllis-fleming-concert-hall/rcm-chamber-choir/29-october-2019/18-15), and with Bax's symphony no.3 (https://bachtrack.com/concert-listing/st-johns-smith-square/salomon-orchestra/29-october-2019/19-30) . (Interesting to me, though again, can't get there, and in Germany not London- Weinberg symphony 10! But it's his 100th, I'd be disappointed if there were no celebrations, I'm very glad there's actually- quite a lot.)

Edit:
Halifax (Nova Scotia) tomorrow at 19:30: woodwind/string/piano trios by Herzogenberg, Reinecke and Brahms: https://bachtrack.com/concert-listing/the-peggy-corkum-music-room/the-music-room-chamber-players-series-philip-myers-horn-legend/30-october-2019/19-30 (https://bachtrack.com/concert-listing/the-peggy-corkum-music-room/the-music-room-chamber-players-series-philip-myers-horn-legend/30-october-2019/19-30). There is another concert with the Herzogenberg July 16 2020... (https://bachtrack.com/concert-listing/cuvillies-theatre/4-festspiel-kammerkonzert/16-july-2020/20-00).

Edit: adding in some links :)

In the Stanford U/Silicon Valley part of California, the non-professional Saratoga Symphony Orchestra specializes in seldom played repertory, at least half of which falls within the Unsung Composers remit. This may be old news, but in case it isn't, a specimen concert would be that of 3/12/2017, which comprised Duparc's "Lenore," Hübler's Konzertstück for 4 horns, and Raff's Symphony No. 5, "Lenore." This season they have already played Glazunov's Symphony No. 1. Concerts to come include works by Auber, Dubois, Massenet, Delibes, Borkiewicz's 1st concerto, MacDowell's 1st orchestral suite, Guilmant's Symphony No. 1, Jongen's Symphonie Concertante for organ and orchestra, and more. http://www.saratogasymphony.com/schedule.html (http://www.saratogasymphony.com/schedule.html)

Trio Anima Mundi continue their Reissiger cycle in 2020 with 3 more Piano Trios: No.4 Op.56; Op.1 No.3 in Cm; and No.18, Op.188.

Their much anticipated belated release of British Piano Trios should be available next February.

ah, I see that Trio Anima Mundi plans as of June to accompany their recordings with performances. Which explains op.1 no.3 - that's the Beethoven work they intend to play in the same concert as Reissiger's Op.186 in 3 concerts in June if possible...
