Title: Florence Price Mississippi River Suite
Post by: Paul Barasi on Sunday 12 January 2020, 17:22
Nobody knows the trouble I've seen promoting unsung composers. The fun and joy in Florence Price's well-crafted, free-flowing Mississippi River Suite celebrates its African-American spiritual roots in a melodic cruise that paints in exuberant sound the passing shoreline cultures.

I like that piece a lot!  Thanks for reminding me to check out this neglected/newly rediscovered composer.  I remember reading about when all her papers were found in that old house and then I never got around to checking out any of her music.

It's worth doing a search here for 'Florence Price'.

A slight diversion while staying with this composer.  Has anyone heard anymore about the 'recently' discovered cache of her 'unpublished' manuscripts?  Anything known in the recording pipeline?  I quite like her mix of traditional symphonic approach blended with american tunes and rhythms.

Cheers
