Title: Canadian Orchestral Music 1874-1943, including Clarence Lucas: Macbeth Overture
Post by: Wheesht on Friday 12 February 2021, 09:02
The Symphonova Orchestra was discussed in this thread (http://www.unsungcomposers.com/forum/index.php/topic,7097.msg75460.html#msg75460) two years ago, and I see there is a recording of Canadian Orchestral Music that includes the Macbeth Overture op. 39 by Clarence Lucas (1866-1947). It is also on Youtube, autogenerated (whatever that means, I'm not sure how YT works in that respect, to be honest), here (https://youtu.be/zvXRwPSdV_o). For a review (that fails to mention the Lucas) see here (https://www.thewholenote.com/index.php/booksrecords2/classicalabeyond/28215-la-patrie-our-canada-canadian-orchestral-music-1874-1943-symphonova-orchestra-shelley-katz).

For those like me who try to avoid Amazon if at all possible, the CD can be also be ordered directly from the Canadian Music Centre (https://cmccanada.org/shop/cd-cmccd-25618/).

When I listened to the Macbeth Overture on YT it was immediately followed by RVW's Dives and Lazarus - it was like having a heavy weight taken off my shoulders. From the pedestrian to the sublime gorgeousness of a genius.

Agreed. Some unsung music should remain that way.
