Title: Carl Loewe: Palestrina (oratorio)
Post by: Aragion on Friday 20 June 2025, 17:05
I wonder if someone had the opportunity to record the yesterday's broadcast of Loewe's oratorio "Palestrina" (https://www.swr.de/swrkultur/musik-klassik/geistliche-musik-palestrina-von-carl-loewe-mittagskonzert-2025-06-19-100.html) or at least to listen to it.

It dates from 1841.
I hadn't realised how many oratorios Loewe wrote:

Now in the Downloads board. Don't expect rapture if you're fond of vibrato. Still, seems more appropriate here.

I'll add my thanks, Ilja. Much appreciated. Just for completeness, the oratorio's three parts are:

I. Einleitung - Palestrina & Fiametta vor der Thüre ihres Häuschens am Monte Celio. (Introduction - Palestrina & Fiametta before the door of their cottage on Mount Cielo).
II. Das Concilium in Trident (The Council of Trent) - starts 23:32.
III. Die Peterskirche in Rom (St. Peters in Rome) - starts at 47:59.

Libretto published in 1845, score first published in 2022, I see no sign of the vocal score or parts being published in the 19th century according to HMB (though many of his other large-scale vocal works, including operettas, were.)
