Hear, hear!

Quote from: eschiss1 on Tuesday 02 January 2024, 16:41Just because ÖNB only has the score doesn't mean someone doesn't have the Kauffmann parts - what became of Paez? Hopefully not destroyed in WW2 like Junne and other publishers :( (but yes, someone might have, but who? :) ) (Btw LoC has an ambiguous - "unk" - entry for Kauffmann's symphony also.)

Well, yes - but they are not, at present at least, obviously available. One presumes Vogt&Fritz made parts from whatever score they had, but that may have been doctored somewhat by Franke. We just don't know without comparing the score at ONB with that produced by Vogt&Fritz.
I don't like that "unk" at LoC!

QuoteHow/In what form the music reached the publisher in the first place is unknown.

And there's the rub, of course. One would be interested to know.

I was thinking much the same thing, Alan. He certainly seems to have been something of a charlatan.

Quote from: eschiss1 on Monday 01 January 2024, 22:28GV: Kauffmann's symphony is at ÖNB, just misfiled, as I think I remarked at the IMSLP wishlist.

Thanks, Eric. I did note your information on IMSLP - very helpful. I only wanted to show that, apart from the symphony, readily accessible complete performance materials are available for his other major orchestral works, whereas someone would have had to produce parts for the symphony since ONB has only the full score.

And Fleisher has scores and parts of all the works listed above, apart from the symphony.

There are 2 symphonies (apparently) but the second has not been recorded, and I can't find it listed on WorldCat, though the MS may be in the Hungarian State Library - I haven't searched there yet (not all their holdings are on WorldCat). Fleisher, incidentally, has only the 7th String Quartet.

It is a great pity that the upload does not contain the harp parts since these are very prominent in the score. I have advised Mr Walsh who admits he uploaded the wrong version, but does not say if he will upload the version with the harps. Until he does so we are not hearing what the composer wrote.

I heartily agree - most impressive.

IMSLP has a list of his compositions and a number of scores. Fleisher has parts only (complete, but no score) of the second cello concerto and score and parts of third cello concerto, together with a number of other orchestral and concertante works (including the Overture).

I am afraid I can similarly raise no enthusiasm for this project. So much 19th century organ music, unless the work of gifted composers (Mendelssohn, and the French masters, for example) is, at least to my ears, dull, muddy, undistinguished and boring - apologies to organists, who may think differently!

I don't understand either, I'm afraid.

Nor of his piano concertos since Covid put a stop to Hyperion's proposed recording.

Or perhaps, and let us hope this will be the case, some enterprising company like CPO for example, will have recorded and released the works Mark mentions a little sooner.
