Composers & Music / Re: Why we like the music we do
Thursday 14 July 2016, 15:27
Interesting topic, indeed. I would also say that it relates to early exposure. My father listened to classical music, and so do I today. Most people who I know to love classical music have parents with the same music taste.

However, I am also fascinated by the time when the music that I like was created, such as the end of 19th century and early 20th century.

Just found it on Youtube... the first movement is really beautiful.

Can't find any recordings, though. Anybody knows how to get this PC in good quality and not just from Youtube?

Thanks

By the way, it seems that the CD containing both piano concertos and the violin concerto has been re-issued lately (http://www.vdegallo.ch/cd_det.asp?NoCD=865). I was just able to buy it on Amazon.

Would you consider Samuel Barber's violin concerto to be an unsung masterpiece?

I think everybody knows the Adagio for strings, but what about the violin concerto. It's a wonderfully melodic and sad piece of music.

Ah yes, the violin concerto. I had forgotten about it, but it's also part of my collection. And yes, it's a very beautiful one!

Hello,

does anybody know what music is played in this video?

It sounds like a requiem to me, but I wouldn't know which one.

Thanks for any help,

Nick

Composers & Music / Richard Flury

Hello,

I've run a quick search and found that no one has ever mentioned Richard Flury in this forum.

Does anybody know any of his music? I only know his two piano concertos, which I really like. I have discovered him many years ago browsing through the classical CD collection of my town's public library.

By the way, I'm new to this forum. I've been reading it for quite some time now, but until now I've never actively participated in the discussions. Let me say that I'm really happy to have found a place to discuss and discover less known composers.

Regards,

Nick
