Quite one of the most difficult catalogues to compile. Schmitt was another composer who reworked many of his earlier piano pieces into orchestral works. The ordering of the opus numbers is well beyond my comprehension ::)   Hopefully Balapoel will be able to add to this with some of Schmitt's other compositions :)

Has anyone been able to find a recording anywhere of the Schmitt String Trio op 105?

It doesnt seem to exist anywhere. Im in australia, so the two vinyls on Amazon won't ship to me. Sigh.

petershott@btinternet.com

Welcome to the Forum, Japptimes.

I hope I'm not making a similar mistake to that of the 19th century European who famously declared that there are no black swans - but I am reasonably confident there isn't a recording of the Schmitt Trio Op 105. A considerable pity! There are duplicate recordings of some of Schmitt's works, but frustratingly no recordings at all of other of his equally good works.

eschiss1

I see there's been an LP recording on Cybelia in the 1980s of his string trio but I know of no other recording either.

jani

There is also recording of two suites Antoine et Cléopâtre and Rêves on Cybelia (CY 842), and three suites on Salammbô are on Ades (203592). Antoine et Cléopâtre is conducted by Leif Segerstam and Salammbô by Jacques Mercier.

By the way, has anyone heard Semiramis? That is the one piece I would like to hear.

Maybe the Symphonie concertante op.82 is considered his first symphony, or Janiana (op.101, symphony for strings) ?
