Marx Symphonische Nachtmusik Broadcast 8 Jan 2026

[ewk]

Dear all,
Berkant Haydin, founder and general secretary of the Joseph Marx society, alerted me that Marx' "Sinfonische Nachtmusik" (Symphonic Night Music) is going to be broadcast on 8 Jan 7:30pm CET on Ö1 radio (Austrian public radio channel 1).
Orchestra: Tonkünstlerorchester Niederösterreich, Fabien Gabel.
Programme:
- Wagner Prelude to Tristan and Isolde
- Zemlinsky: Sechs Gesänge für mittlere Stimme
- Berg: Sieben frühe Lieder
- Marx: Sinfonische Nachtmusik

broadcast of a live performance 14&16 Dec 2025 from the Musikverein Vienna, Review in German here (although not a lot about Marx).
Best wishes,
ewk

Great news! I've always been dismayed by the fact that CPO didn't release one to finish off their Marx symphonic works cycle. Now we at least have a stand-in for that (since other than the ASV recording that Naxos re-released, there is only the old radio recording by Karl Etti).

I've posted this broadcast to Download Section, pending approval.

Thanks for this! It's not hugely different from the Sloane recording, although I find that the recording is a bit crisper and more transparent.

Thanks for the upload!

This performance has been available for streaming since the beginning of May!
I will remove the post in the download section

It is a pity that we still lack a commercial recording of the Nordland Rhapsodie, the only major orchestral work by Marx that remains unrecorded, although a radio broadcast has been captured by Corentin Boissier and can be heard on YouTube.

I can only dream of CPO will be willing to give us a disc of Eine Symphonische Nachtmusik couples with Nordland Rhapsodie...
