Delphine von Schauroth (1813-1887) studied the piano with Kalkbrenner when she was still a child.

When Mendelssohn met her, he was impressed both by her talent and her personality and fell in love with her after a second meeting. According to the detailed biographical entry about her by the Sophie Drinker Institut (in German), two of Mendelssohn's works are dedicated to her: the piano concerto in G Minor op. 25 and the Venetianisches Gondellied op. 19 no. 6. This was unusual as Mendelssohn very rarely dedicated works to anyone.

Her Sonate Brillante in Minor is available, together with 6 'Lieder ohne Worte' op. 18 on an album on Novus Promusica entitled 'Hidden Pearls', played by Arcadie Triboi. It is also on on Youtube.
