Sounds Wagnerian to me - it would be good to have more.

is this the symphony in C major published the next year in 1877 (and I think his only symphony published), even though you have it listed as no.2? What are his other symphonies, if I may ask? :) (I would like to update IMSLP's worklist. Also to reformat it- it assuredly needs to be made to look less like a computer program grabbed stuff from HMB and belched - but that can wait.)

The IMSLP Arnold Krug list of works page mentions, on the bottom of the page, a "Symphony No.2 (1876)". I take it the Adagio is from this work?

The symphony in C major is listed separately: https://imslp.org/wiki/Symphony_in_C_major%2C_Op.9_(Krug%2C_Arnold)

1. Symphony in B minor, WoO — 1866 ( a student work written when he was 17yrs - unpublished)

2. Symphony in C major, Op. 9 — 1876/77 (the Adagio is from this work)

Mark Thomas

Many thanks for your work, Martin. There is a dignity and nobility to this piece which reminds me very much of Bruch's 2nd Symphony - I for one would be very interested in hearing the other movements, please.

Thank you Mark - I might well press on with this work - written in his early thirties I think (but I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm off the mark - I usually am)

I do find his music has moments where there is a real depth of feeling, often quite intense. On the other side of the coin there is much that is on the edge of being hundrum.  Maybe this is why his music has never been recorded? There again this judgement could be levelled at any composer to a degree.

Anyway let's see.

Forot to say I'm also looking at the score of Aus der Wanderzeit op42 (1890) which looks interesting too.

Gareth Vaughan

I would like very much to echo Mark's comments.

tpaloj- yeah, that was my fault. It's symphony no.1 as needs adding to the page, not symphony no.2 which is redundundundundant to purpose here.

Edit 10-16-26: fixed.
