...well, a proper listen this afternoon has revealed an absolute belter of an opera! It has almost everything: a big love duet, a villainous ruler and it is all wrapped up in wonderful orchestral writing (whether whipping up excitement or expressing subtler emotions). The themes are memorable and the performance is superb too. For me this is the operatic find of 2011...
