(Stenhammar counts as one of Sweden's least 'unsung composers' in the sense that there have been multiple recordings of his principal compositions. I may well not have picked up on all of these :))

The reason for excluding these two pieces was that I had thought that the arrangements of the Suites from the Incidental Music to both were made by others. Certainly it was Hilding Rosenberg who arranged the Suite from "Chitra". In the case of "Lodolezzi Sjunger" I may have been in error and I shall add the Suite.

According to the BIS CD of the PC 1 it is his Op. 1, not Op. 2 as you have here.

Re Chitra: the Rosenberg-Suite was released by Musica Sveciae MSCD 626, performed by the Swedish Radio SO, E-P Salonen conducting.
(IMHO Salonen's interpretation of the Serenade is unsurpassed.)
As far as I can judge - I don't have the CD, so cannot say what the booklet has to say about it - the BIS release contains the complete music. There are seven numbers against Rosenberg's three but there is much repetition in the - presumably - original score. Perhaps others who have the booklet can  say more?

alberto

I am coming back to the incidental music to "Chitra".
Musica Sveciae Cd 626 (cond. Salonen) contains a suite of three movements (timings 3.11-4.46-5.35); the booklet plainly and clearly deals about a 1959  arrangement by Hilding Rosenberg.
Bis Cd 476 (cond. N.Jaarvi) contains both "Lodolezzi sjunger" and "Chitra".
About the former nothing is said about any rework by somebody other than Stenhammar. About Chitra the booklet deals about the Rosenberg-arranged suite in 3 movements; but the Cd contains six movements lasting 22'09".

Stenhammar composed also two youthful operas:
-1892-1893 "Gildat pa Solhaus" op.6
-1897-1898 "Tirfing" op.15 (I have a Cd of excerpts by Sterling, 1999 release, conductor Segerstam).

alberto

My fault. The Bis contains seven movements. But the booklet, as I tried to point, is not at all clear.

Corrected. Thank you :)

Just a few additions to the lists above:

Orchestral:
Prelude and Bourrée - recently recorded by the Gävle SO on Naxos (1891)

There is also a very short sketch for an orchestral work with the title Tre Fontane, possibly from 1907.

Works for choir and orchestra:
Festmusik vid Göteborgs 300-årsjubileum samt vid Utställningens öppnande den 8 maj 1923, written in 1923 for the 300 year celebration of the city of Gothenburg and the Gothenburg Exhibition, for male choir, childrens choir and wind band.

Incidential music:
- Fanfares and marches for Hamlet, op 41
- Music for Turandot, op 42.

There are also sketches for incidential music to Folkungasagan (Strindberg) and King Lear.
