Wow! That's expensive. I'll stick with the CPO disks I already have.

The price on the Japanese website is actually quite reasonable, but that's before postage...

And on hearing the samples, these seem to be sensitive performances, a bit along the lines of (the excellent) Nisonen recordings on Nisonen but les HIP-y (although I don't find it all that distracting in the Nisonen recordings). But with more urgency than Griffith on cpo.

I find it interesting that Ries has found his way to a Japanese orchestra and label. Supposing these are the best recordings of the two symphonies...?

Exton is known for its audiophile standards, so regardless of the performance, I expect these to be one of the best recordings from a sound engineering perspective.

I'm pleased that there are three recordings of these symphonies and perhaps eventually three complete recordings, especially if it means more performances. His chamber music can sometimes be heard in New York City and elsewhere- all sorts of things that just weren't, when I first heard of him.

Interesting too is that the recording is with Norichika Iimore whose on-going Haydn Symphonies cycle I happen to like (if you can find them). The Pacific Philharmonia Tokyo website looks interesting but I can't determine what's going on with the imbedded Japanese and Google translate is of no help.  Exton recorded a few with the Pittsburgh Symphony before they went to Reference Recordings.
