Hi All,
To answer my own question, I hadn't!  I see that a CD of his music has been released on the Tactus label with the title "Opere per pianoforte" and the pianists Massimilliano Genot and Andrea Vigna-Taglianti.  He was court pianist-composer to His Majesty The King of Italy.  Having listened to some parts of it on Spotify, it sounds intriguing!

Recordings & Broadcasts / Toccata's Pipeline
Tuesday 26 January 2021, 17:22
Hi All,
I happened to glance at Toccata Classics pipeline page yesterday and found the following CDs which should be well worth a listen and fall within the remit of this forum:

Friedrich GERNSHEIM: Piano Music, Volume Two
Franz LISZT: The Complete Symphonic Poems transcribed for Solo Piano by August Stradal, Volume Four (at last!!)
Moritz MOSZKOWSKI: Piano Music, Volume One
Ottorino RESPIGHI: Complete Piano Music, Volume Two
Sir Donald TOVEY: Chamber Music, Volume Three: The Complete Cello Sonatas
Joseph WOELFL: Piano Music, Volume Two
Eugène YSAŸE: Orchestral and Piano Works

Plenty there to whet the appetite!
Best regards
Jonathan

Hi all,
I know Alkan doesn't perhaps count as especially unsung but some of the works on Mark Viner's new disc are first recordings.
Here's a link to his web shop for pre-ordering this disc:
www.markviner.com/product-page/paraphrases-marches-symphonie-for-solo-piano-op-39
I'll be buying this from there rather than anywhere else as at least that way, Mark gets all the royalties and, in these strange times, the artists need all the help they can get.

I found out yesterday that the superb pianist Paul Wee has recorded Thalberg's complete L'Art du chant for BIS. I've already ordered it!

Composers & Music / MDT Classics is no more
Saturday 26 January 2019, 12:13
Hi All,
I've read this morning on another forum that MDT Classics has gone into receivership.  Very sad news.

Not sure where the best place for this posting is so if it is in the wrong place, please feel free to move it!

I've been waiting for someone to record this for years!

Luckily it's already on a streaming service I use so I can listen before I buy...

Sunday 14 August 2016, 12:59
Hi All,
Just noticed this on the MDT website:

Looks interesting...

At last, someone has recorded Tausig's solo piano transcription of Liszt's Dante symphony. The pianist is Evangelina Mitsopoulou. I can't find a physical CD recording but it is available in mp3 format at Amazon. I'll have a listen later when I have time.

Recordings & Broadcasts / Martucci - Piano Trios
Saturday 04 July 2015, 18:56
Hi All,
In the list of new releases on MDT's website, I found this:

http://www.mdt.co.uk/martucci-giuseppe-piano-trios-nos-and-2-trio-vega-naxos.html

Sounds like it might be worth a listen!  As far as I know, this is a first recording.

Composers & Music / Louis Brassin (1840 - 1884)
Friday 26 September 2014, 18:18
Hi All,
I've recently been listening to a lot of Wagner transcriptions and, in the cover notes to one of these, I came across a reference to there having been 2 Piano Concertos written by Louis Brassin.  There are a few other works mentioned as well on Wikipedia (given below) but, aside from the transcriptions of Wagner, nothing else seems to have been recorded!

    Première grande polonaise
    Deuxième grande polonaise, Op. 18
    3eme Grande Polonaise
    Feuillet d'album (Album Leaf)
    Étude de concert
    Impressions d'Automne (Herbst-Eindrücke) Trois etudes
    Menuet, Gavotte et Gigue
    Polka de la Princesse
    Sérénade
    Rêverie pastoral
    Rêverie
    Second Galop de Concert fantastique
    Les Adieux, morceau caractéristiques
Grandes Etudes de Concert. Op. 12 [No. 1-6]
    Mazurka de Salon, Op. 14
Au clair de la lune, Nocturne, Op. 17

Has anyone here ever heard any of these and, if so, are they any good?
Thanks in advance...

Recordings & Broadcasts / Rontgen on BBC Radio 3
Friday 31 May 2013, 19:22
Hi All,
I don't know if anyone heard yesterday's "In Tune" but on it, at about 5.45pm (i think), they played part of one of Rontgen's String Trios.  It was a lovely piece and I look forward to hearing more Rontgen on R3  ::)

The segment is easily found via the BBC iplayer.

Composers & Music / William Vincent Wallace?
Saturday 16 July 2011, 14:22
Hi All,
While browsing the upcoming releases page at MDT, I came across this:
http://www.mdt.co.uk/MDTSite/pages/product/product.asp?ctgry=NR_August11&prod=8572774

Has anyone ever heard anything by this composer?  There is a bit on Wikipaedia but not very much and no hint as to what style he wrote in although the review at MDT mentions Liszt as an influence in these particular works.

Having said that, it's still being added to my wishlist...

Recordings & Broadcasts / Enna anyone?
Wednesday 02 March 2011, 19:34
I've just ordered this disc from a well known retailer but know nothing aside from what is on Wikipaedia about this composer.  Does anyone else have the disc or know anything useful about what I can expect to hear when the disc lands on the doormat?
Thanks in advance...

Hi All,
I was awake at 4.30am this morning and put the radio on.  It was Through the Night on BBC Radio 3 and there was a lovely piece being played by the above composer.  I've just had a look around on iTunes, Amazon and MDT and there are about a dozen CDs of his music available - however, not all are single composer discs.  I just wondered if anyone here have any of these CDs in their collections and would they like to comment on the music?

Morning All,
This has probably been mentioned before but I read recently that the recording of Bortkiewicz's 2nd and 3rd Piano concerti has been released.  I just wondered if anyone had bought it yet and, if so where from?  The details are as follows:
Stefan Doniga (piano); Czech Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra/David Porcelijn rec. 2008  NEDERLANDS MUZIEK INSTITUUT C13172 [58:32] - it's not on JPC, MDT, Amazon or Archiv (where Musicweb says you should be able to get it from) so where on earth do I get a copy?
