I've collected material about Adolf Ludwig Agathon von Parpart for some time and I wrote about him in the old forum, ca 2008. Nobody knew about him then, and if he's unknown to the members of the Unsung Composers forum, I guess he's truly unknown

Dear All,

I marvel at the contents of the Hofmeister XIX web catalogue (http://www.hofmeister.rhul.ac.uk/), and since I would like to try to find copies of some piano works listed there I wonder if you could inform me about music libraries with especially large collections of printed, romantic piano music.

I realize that it can be (very) hard to locate much of the piano music from Hofmeister XIX catalogue, but I would like to give it a try.

When it comes to Reger, here are four (not five, sorry!) primary recommendations of mine:

Even though I haven't heard all of them, what I've heard from the Three Suites for Solo Viola is perhaps the finest music that I know of by Reger. Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Johann Sebastian Bach, Op.81 is a magnificent and very beautiful work - one of my absolute favourites when it comes to piano music. The Ballet Suite for Orchestra is a fine work, with more of Bavarian beer foam than Viennese champagne bubbles to it. It proves that Reger can be "light", in his own way. The piece is interesting from a chronological point of view, since it was composed in 1913 – when a considerably more famous ballet score was given its first performance...

A fourth recommendation, just for some unsung Reger: his Scherzino for Horn and Strings is a lovely miniature concerto that shouldn't be missed.

Atterberg composed his Requiem in 1914, with a text in Swedish by Gustav Schlyter. It is a 20 minute work, and not a requiem in the usual sense. The orchestra includes organ.
A search for Atterberg at http://www.mic.stim.se/ will lead you to a pdf file with the first seven pages of the score, in case that you would like to read it.

See all you Atterberg fans in Helsingborg on Sunday ! The fifth symphony will be played by the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra under Gregor Bühl.

I have the acousence recording of the Rott C minor quartet. It's a fine recording of a fine work, and well worth the effort to order. The slow movement of the quartet is very moving.

Dear Atterberg friends,

If you happen to be in Helsingborg on the 14th of March next year you should attend the concert when the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra under Gregor Bühl performs the fifth symphony of Atterberg, Sinfonia funebre (his finest symphony, IMHO).

A couple of years ago, I met an engineer from the Swedish Patent and Registration Office and asked her how Atterberg was remembered there nowadays. She told me that the older employees could recall anecdotes about him, and when the Office moved to a new location a few years ago music by Atterberg was played during the festivities. It's nice to know that he's remembered by his former employer.

Perhaps someone could help me with this one?

In my search for astronomers/composers I've come across Francesco de Vico (1805-1848), who was a Jesuit and director of the Collegio Romano observatory. He discovered numerous comets, among other things. He was also a choral conductor and composer of sacred vocal music, and I've been able to find a reference to one published work of his:

Antiphons and Responses of Matins and Lauds for the Last Three Days of Holy Week (London : Cary, 1877)

The information about the publication has been taken from the Franz Pazdirek handbook and from http://www.kirchenlexikon.de/v/vico_f.shtml.
Is the work available in a library somewhere, perhaps?
