I agree with Alan. I heard this, years ago and actually dozed off in the middle of the CD. It was part of a box set, if I remember correctly - the other orchestral works included a charming small violin concertino and an assortment of unheard waltzed and suites.

Just stumbled across this [imho] superb performance of Im Walde by Neue Philharmonie Hamburg conducted by Simon Kannenberg, I believe as part of the Raff Jubilee on 13.11.2022. I'm only including the link to the 1st movement. Movements 3 & 4 are available on the channel. I expect they might upload movement 2 eventually.

Other than the scant information floating on the net, do we know anything about this French composer. He's said to have written 3 Piano Concertos. Born the same year as Saint-Saens, I'm curious as how his music sounds and if the 3 PC are good candidates for Hyperion's RPC series, provided the scores can be located.

Do we have any updates reg. the status of the Piano concertos that were supposed to be recorded for Hyperion. I just came across a realization of the 2nd movement of Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat. Simply beautiful.

I'm referring to the CPO booklet notes that accompany this marvelous music - it states a Double concerto for 2 pianos composed in Cologne in 1852 and performed together with Carl Reinecke. The booklet says its lost, but we all thought Moszkowski's  1st piano concerto was lost; same for D'Albert's A minor piano concerto, but both turned up eventually. I was just wondering, if we are certain that this concerto is lost or...!?!

What about the Double piano Concerto. is it lost?

The G major exists in complete manuscript as far as I can deduct from the articles on the net. The fact that something is ignored for so long doesn't always translate into its quality.

Has there been any development the the recording plans for this concerto? The lost A minor with the unrecorded G Major  would make a nice RPC volume.

Oh! this was lots of fun to listen to. I second Alan. Please write an original Symphony "in the style of Beethoven" if you must. What did you use to realize your orchestration?

Are his Piano concertos good enough to tempt Hyperion, provided they can be located?

Won't the Violin concerto benefit from another fresh recording. I absolutely love the piece.

Dutton has a very interesting disc on their website now - Benjamin Godard's Violin Concerto, Op. 29 - way before his Op. 35 & 131. Orchestrated by Martin Yates

Also in the disc -

Scènes écossaises for oboe and orchestra, Op. 138
Suite de trois morceaux for flute and orchestra, Op. 116
Trois morceaux for orchestra, Op. 27
