Sadly, I have an urgent meeting to go to at County Hall, Newport that afternoon in which I hope to speak against a planning application in my village, but I'd be very grateful if someone could make a recording of the performance for me.

The BBC has an excellent facility to listen to (and make a recording of) its programs during a week after they have been broadcasted. So you can relax and make your own recording.

Recordings & Broadcasts / Re: More Polish Radio rarities

It is indeed an interesting site, but Mark Thomas has already mentioned it in the start of this topic.
Jesse was referring to Susan Sharpe who is a (freelance) BBC presenter and I can't figure what he means with "Read more.."
Btw, my reading ability of Polish is sufficient. Moreover Internet Explorer gives the possibility of a translation.

2 of Camillo Schumann's several organ sonatas are on IMSLP in score but I haven't yet heard any of his music.
No. 2 and no. 4 can be heard on Youtube

Composers & Music / Re: Piano Quintet must hear
Wednesday 16 June 2010, 21:35
I can imagine No. 2 is also an attractive composition, like everything I know form Gernsheim. It is simply because I do have a recording of 1st Piano Quintet and I never heard his 2nd.

It is rather surprising that nobody has mentioned yet the wonderful Piano Quintet op 35 by Gernsheim!

And I am rather fond of Henry Hadley's Quintet op 50.

Julius Otto Grimm should also be mentioned here. He was a close friend of Brahms' and his compositions deserve a lot more attention.

We had a thread concerning the symphonies by Hermann september last year!

There is also the Amsel Septett (Blackbird Septet) composed by Heinz Tiessen in 1915, his op 20.

Composers & Music / Re: String sextets
Tuesday 27 April 2010, 09:23
Dohnanyi's String Sextet is the work of a 16 year old, still a bit immature.
I would recommend  Spohr (op 140) and Dvorak (op 48) both well written. Gliere has composed 3 sextets, of which the 3rd op 11 is the best in my opinion.
Less known but worth listening to are the sextets by Louis Glass and Hans Koessler. And yes, Joseph Holbrooke has written a Sextet as well.

Hi Ilja,
Here you'll find an extensive list of chamber music in which the cor anglais plays a more or less prominent role.
In addition to this list I'd like to mention the Trio op 49 nr 1 for oboe, cor anglais & clarinet by Sigfrid Karg-Elert, a nice piece of music and very well playable.
Furthermore there are some works for larger wind ensembles, like the Nonet by Parry and the Dixtuor by Enescu which make use of the cor anglais.
And if you are really keen on discovering forgotten music you might try some works by Heinrich Molbe who seem to have had a particular interest in the cor anglais. You'll find them on the site of IMSLP.
Have fun!
