This may be of interest to opera fans, and although not my main sphere of interest, I would certainly wish to try it. I remember having a 3LP set years ago devoted to women composers, and I recall that it included a couple of short extracts from this opera which I recall as being escpecially attractive, and although were accompanied by piano reduction, I would never have dreamt that a complete recording would ever be considered! https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/jery-und-baetely/hnum/10245712

I have just come across this which initially promised much - until moments later when my hopes were dashed with the realisation that here was yet another dreaded "HIP" release. Such a shame that such an important gap in the recorded repertoire should be filled thyis way! Anyway, with the unlikely possibility of a further recording anytime soon, I suppose I will have to suffer the awful fortepiano and obtain the CD  - rather begrudgingly! Others may be tempted nevertheless: https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/moscheles-complete-piano-sonatas/hnum/9899209

I will be most interested to hear this when available! //https://www.clicmusique.com/halina-krzyzanowska-musique-chambre-wrobel-marczyk-gebski-skrobinski-p-106223.html. I also see that there forthcoming releases from the same company including a CD of songs by Stojowski, and also one of songs by the much more obscure earlier 19th century Polish composer Emanuel Kania, whose chamber music featured on a release from Acte Prealable some years ago!

This new release mostly duplicates pieces from Seta Tanyel's three CD's originally released by Collins, as well as other odds and ends that crop up as encores on a number of other recital discs. However there are one or two previously unrecorded works here (certainly in modern times), and judging from the excerpts here, the overall recital is very attractive - both well-played and well-recorded indeed! Would it be too soon to think that Moszkowski is beginning to attract the variety of attention that he surely deserves? //https://www.amazon.co.uk/Moszkowski-Etsuko-Hirose-Danacord-DACOCD/dp/B084WLBV3K/ref=sr_1_2?crid=G3RC08EX5779&dchild=1&keywords=moszkowski&qid=1584638656&s=music&sprefix=mosz%2Cpopular%2C148&sr=1-2

At last, we have the first of Rosalind Ellicott's piano trios recorded! Also, the première of Coleridge Taylor's early piano trio as well as other "goodies" from Waldo Warner, Cliffe Forrester and Rutland Boughton. In fact ALL are world premières, and a first "must buy" for 2020! https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/english-piano-trios/hnum/9513912

Recordings & Broadcasts / Catharinus Elling piano works

This new CD has some delightful piano music, rather in the style of Grieg at times perhaps, but nevertheless most appealing (well to me at least!). Having already enjoyed the piano quartet and string quartets on the previously-issued CD by Simax, this new release needs no further recommendation! And now perhaps on to his 2 symphonies perhaps?

Recordings & Broadcasts / Kalkbrenner Op.143 etc.

I know Kalkbrenner is for some a rather dubious character, but for those interested, I can say that although this forthcoming recording is one of his sets of studies, these are leaning more towards Chopin and include some of real musical content - and then there is his set of variations on one of Chopin's mazurkas (in B flat Op7 No1 to be exact!).https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/kalkbrenner-25-grandes-etudes-de-style/hnum/9509807

Recordings & Broadcasts / Eduard Schütt piano works
Tuesday 08 October 2019, 10:14
I know there are a few here who had hoped that Hyperion would at some time record the two piano concertos of Eduard Schütt (1856-1933), and I hope that this will happen in the not-too-distant future, but in the meanwhile I have come across this CD https://www.amazon.it/Carnaval-Mignon-Op-48-Papillons-DAmour/dp/B07NLQJCYJ/ref=sr_1_2?__mk_it_IT=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&keywords=bambace&qid=1570525249&s=music&sr=1-2, devoted to a collection of some of his shorter piano works. Then there is also this 2CD collection which includes 3 of Schütt's works for piano duet https://www.amazon.it/Paralleli-Andrea-Bambace/dp/B00BG4BKQM/ref=pd_rhf_dp_p_img_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=5HNQKZD9S6XEY6DDEAVB. These CD's from the Italian label Phoenix seem to be quite difficult to obtain though, which is a shame as there are a number of other interesting titles listed in their catalogue, although the listing on the Phoenix website is hopelessly out of date!

Although this 3CD release has been mentioned on the EM Records site for some while now, it is now readily available, and having just acquired my copy, I have absolutely no hesitation in giving it the highest recommendation - that is if late 19th century English violin music is your "thing" - so to speak! Both the recording and performance are of the highest standard, and it is good to have ALL Parry's violin music available, even though some of the smaller early works are perhaps, understandingly, of lesser importance. It also may be interesting to compare Rupert Marshall Luck's earlier recording of the sonatas.

That more of Parry's music is now accessible for the first time - at least thanks to the recorded medium, can only be most sincerely welcomed. And further proof, if any be needed, that Parry's reputation should not rest solely on "Jerusalem"!https://www.em-records.com/discs/emr-cd050-52-details.html

Recordings & Broadcasts / Enrique Soro violin sonatas
Saturday 26 January 2019, 19:44
I was rather pleasanatly surprised to see this new release! These certainly are full-blown late romantic works of considerable promise - from the excerpts provided. My only gripe is again we have what would otherwise have been an excellent CD, but at around 50 minutes playing time - together with a rather exorbitant price tag - why could some of Soro's other shorter violin and piano works have not been included,m and yes, there seems to be a THIRD sonata, according to his work list! In spite of this, however, I will have to have this.... https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/sonaten-fuer-violine-und-klavier/hnum/8937096 //

With a date of 1980, this is hardly a "new release", but as I have only just discovered its existence by chance, and therefore possibly assume that others here may not have come across it before, I thought that it may be of interest! The music seems attractive enough, judging on the evidence from the soundbites, but certainly is of its period and appears to break no barriers. As I have certainly enjoyed other works of hers - in particular her chamber music - I felt that I had to give one this a go! Many apologies to those who have been there already, got the proverbial T-shirt etc. etc....................

For those of us who do not consider "light music" unworthy of their attention is this rather delightful and enticing surprise release from Dutton - totally unexpected but certainly on my Christmas list! https://www.duttonvocalion.co.uk/proddetail.php?prod=CDLX7357

Recordings & Broadcasts / G H Witte Cello Sonata etc
Wednesday 07 November 2018, 12:51
Following on from the recent release of his Op5 Piano Quartet comes this excellent (certainly form the extracts) recording of his Cello Sonata Op15 and 3 Stücke Op14. Then there is a bonus in the form of the Cello Sonata by Hutschenruyter - a new name to me, I have to admit, but equally enticing! Certainly a must-buy!

Recordings & Broadcasts / Czerny Violin Sonatas
Thursday 11 October 2018, 18:00
This is certainly a must-buy for me!https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/cpo/detail/-/art/carl-czerny-sonaten-fuer-violine-klavier/hnum/3097656.
I initially thought that one of these would have been his Op686, in B minor and published in 1842, but no! This would appear to be the early 1807 (already recorded) coupled with a Sonate Concertante in E flat - also without opus number. Now all we need is a premiere of the Op686!!

This forthcoming anthology certainly contains a number of curios! //https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/kammermusik/hnum/8745398
I will certainly giving this a try anyway, as the soundbites seem quite promising - and the piano trios recorded previously are favourites of mine!

This is surely something to look forward to with keen anticipation!https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/ballade-tragica/hnum/8745365
Perhaps the piano concertos may follow in due course!
