Hi All,

Very intriguing news from the DUX label.
Recording of the completely unsung Polish composer Michał Bergson (1820-1898) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micha%C5%82_Bergson
Among others we have his Piano Concerto op. 62 played by Jonathan Plowright with the Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra under Łukasz Borowicz.
I await it with great interest!

Hi all.
Last Sunday here in Warsaw at the Warsaw University of Music Mr. Artur Słotwiński, a member of our UC society,  gave a first - after over 150 years - presentation of the B minor (the second) Piano concerto by Józef Władysław Krogulski of 1831.
From the concert note we can learn that only the complete piano part survived and was kept for decades by the Krogulski's family. Only recently Mr. Słotwiński succeded to get it from them.
Having the piano part he did make the new orchestration based on other pieces by Krogulski.
I hope that Mr Artur Słotwiński will also publish the registration of that performance on his channel on YT.
Music sounds very attractive with bravura passages and with lovely tunes.
Let us wait.

Acte Prealable announces recording of the Piano Concerto no. 5 by Raul Koczalski.
http://www.acteprealable.com/index.html
"Raul Koczalski – once again (Słupsk, September 13th 2019). As I have mentioned before, I won't rest until Koczalski's entire creative output is discovered. There are many who are helping me in my endeavour. The first person helping me is the tireless artistic director of the Polish Pianism Festival in Słupsk, Jap Popis, who included the premiere of Koczalski's Piano Concerto nr 5 in the festival's program."

perhaps some of you can find solution for that.
For two weeks I was on holidays and did not enter the unsung and also did not enter the mediafire. Two days ago it appeared that all files uploaded by me during recent monts/weeks dissapeared from mediafire (my files section) so all links given earlier are no longer available.
Do you know useful and good solution for that problem?

Composers & Music / Stefan Kisielewski
Friday 23 March 2012, 19:17
Extending "studies" on Polish music I will upload a number of works by Stefan Kisielewski (1911-1991) - composer, writer and also political activist (in opposition to communist regime).

his short biograms are available here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stefan_Kisielewski

http://www.pwm.com.pl/szczegoly.php?&Kisielewski_Stefan&aukcja=0&grupa_p=6&grp=&pwd[6]=364437&sortuj=sattr_83&grupuj=&przedm=283463&strona=2&change_lang=1&change_skin=103374

I start with his last completed composition - Piano Concerto that was premiered during the Warsaw Autumn Festival of Modern Music in 1991 few weeks before composer's death.

Composers & Music / Władysław Żeleński
Monday 05 March 2012, 19:39
Few months ago after dowloading the Piano Concerto by Żeleński a number of members showed interest in having more of his music.
In fact I do not have too many recordings but have found few orchestral pieces that were not commercially issued and will upload them in nearest days.

Żeleński's biogram can be found - I believe - in the Grove's.
Tried to find something in the English Wikipedia but there is almost nothing about him.

In the Downloads/Polish Music the link to short fragments of his Opera "Konrad Wallenrod" of 1884 is available.

Opera is based on the famous Poem by Adam Mickiewicz, one of our greates Poets of the Romantic Era.
For the plot of the poem see:

Few month ago very  interesting discussion took place under the thread:
Is it right to revive works withdrawn by their composers?

I wrote then the following:
And what about the music composed during the oppressive times? when the composers had to write their music in accordance to instructions or "right" rules? the question is following: is their music always worse or less interesting because their did fulfill such immoral orders? We know from hearing that quite often compositions written in above circumstances are not bad. composers in fact tried in many cases to compose engaging their real talents and using their cunningness to not betray themselves. I mean that they made some concession towards ,,superiors" to have a chance to publish or  to have their compositions performed but their music kept good standard. Of course when the music was based on propaganda texts or were provided with political title (for example To the Memory ..[of local political hero or important event)] critisizing was/is easy. But in case of pure music it is more difficult to accuse the composers of not being strong enough to resist as the music itself is not easy to be literally translated.  However despite all that a number of works created in such circumstances were withdrown by the composers from their opus lists or were re-written. Do we have right to know such music /or their initial versions?
In my opinion we have right to know them because that shows us also the broader context of composers and their music. Few days ago I mentioned about one of such stuff - the Symphony of Peace by Andrzej Panufnik. It was few years ago broadcast by radio here in a program devoted to such music. Must say that in my opinion reputation of Panufnik did not suffered

Few days ago the issue of Panufnik was touched in Downloads Duscussion/Polish Music.

I will uplod the Symphony of Peace - the work composed in 1950/51. The idea of the piece glorifying peace was suggested to the composer during his stay in Moscow in 1950 at the session??? of the peace supporters.
Symphony was premiered in Warsaw on 25 May 1951 at Warsaw Philharmonics.
Composition was applauded by the critics however there were some reseravtions regarding utilising medieval themes what was seen as too religious. Because of that the piece was awarded only with the second rank state prize in music.

All these facts I have taken from the commentary given during the broadcast of the piece in 2003 (can be heard unfortunately only in Polish)
Interesting thing is that material of the Symphony of Peace was then reused by Panufnik in his Sinfonia elegiaca.

Enjoy the music
