Coming up in October is a juicy morsel from cpo: a Piano Quartet and Cello Sonata by Georg Schumann played by members of the Munich Piano Trio. No sound bites yet, but details at jpc here.

I think I've skimmed the scores - available in the US or Canada @IMSLP and Sibley Library Rochester - of Georg Alfred Schumann's piano quartet in F minor (published 1901) (here.) His E minor cello sonata (published 1898) can be viewed, also only in limited regions until 2023, here.

(The Gesellschaft lists only the one piano quartet and one cello sonata (though two violin sonatas) but they list only the one symphony, too unless one searches other pages on their site than just their Werkverzeichnis...) Perhaps other piano quartets (to go with his 2 piano quintets) and other cello sonatas are among his unpublished manuscripts.)

Anyone have the two CDs published by Jubal Music with the composer's Gesellschaft? The CD publisher doesn't have them anymore (I've e-mailed them to confirm this) and no one is disposing a second-hand copy. One of the discs contains the only recording of his two violin sonatas...
The only copies available seems to be in Berlin National Library and Bach Museum in Eisenach, according to worldcat.

Hope cpo is willing to consider making a competing, but more widely-distributed, release of such a recording sometime.

Yes, also hoping they come up with a release of the piano quintets

I only discovered a couple of days ago that I'd bought the CD of Schumann's Violin Sonatas many moons ago. Unfortunately - and despite the favourable opinion of the author of the booklet notes - the music is of no great consequence (rather anonymous and strenuous late-romantic German romanticism) and the violinist's rather threadbare tone leaves a lot to be desired. In addition, the clsoing track on the CD doesn't play properly on one of my CD players...

Not a great advert for this music. We need a much better recording.
