Charles-Auguste Petit (or Anatole Petit) is, in my opinon, one of the most obscure figures on academic french music of the XIX century.
His name isn't found elsewhere except from BnF (wich features only 5 of his pieces), a website where there's a short biography and a reference to an Overture (ernestreyer.com) and a japanese article about a piano competition (https://web.archive.org/web/20160416084001/https://www.piano.or.jp/report/02soc/ued_chpn/2008/11/28_5252.html). There are other few mentions, like on here https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k1178896g/f149.item.r=anatole.zoom#, but are not really helpful on determining critical aspects about his life or his musical production.

Charles-Auguste Petit was a french pianist and composer born the 16th of february of 1818 in Paris and died probably before of after 1864. He studied in the Paris Conservaroty under the tuition of Pierre-Joseph-Guillaume Zimmermann and studied there between 1831 and 1836. He participated in some piano competitions (1831, 1834, 1835, 1836) and obtained first prize in 1831 solfège competition and 1836 piano competition after lot of trial and error. He was somewhat popular composer and one of his works, an Overture, was premiered in 1855. By 1864 his musical publishing vanished and with that all trace of his life. He composed "concertos (No.1, Op.8 ), etudes (Op.7) and salon pieces (2 collections of pieces, mazurka)".
There are some people named like him as a ballet dancer, a guy just named like him and a guy that made... goat cheese?
I really want more info for a more complete biography and probably some notice of more publications. Thanks for reading!
