[jonah]

Berlin Phil Digital Concert Hall tonight at 19:00 Berlin time - a performance by Ensemble Wien-Berlin and members of the Berlin Phil of Raff's Sinfonietta in F (plus music by Mozart,Berio and Globokar)

[Mark Thomas]

I just saw this myself this morning. I'll certainly be recording the audio. Raff at the Berlin Philharmonie, who'd have thought it?

[eschiss1]

Well, it has been 102 years since the Vienna Philharmonic has performed Raff, and 104 since the Gewandhaus Orchestra has. Hrm. The "Bläser der Berliner Philharmoniker" performed the Sinfonietta in 2020, so if this is just the winds again playing the Sinfonietta, then this is the second performance in 6 years by an ensemble associated with the Berlin Phil, but the full Berlin Philharmonic still continues their tradition of Not Playing Raff since I'm not sure how long ago, barring more research...

[eschiss1]

otoh, while the Vienna Philharmonic didn't perform Raff after 1924, Julius Lehnert -did- conduct Raff's first symphony in 1938 with the orchestra of the Gesellschaft in Wien, the organization for which it was written 75 years before.

[Mark Thomas]

It was a first class, lively performance of the delightful Sinfonietta.
